With tax season finally here, and with Refundo in your arsenal, you already know this is going to be an incredible tax season. If you want to really put it over the top this year and make it one to remember, just follow these 5 simple steps to grow your business in a lasting way.
You may think you advertise already by taking an ad out in the local newspaper, but that just doesn’t cut it in 2016. If your business doesn’t have a social media presence then you’re missing out on valuable clients.
The objective is to be as easy to access as possible, and that means having a Facebook page, LinkedIn page, and a professional website. And it’s not enough to have a page, but keeping it up to date with correct contact information and checking it regularly is crucial.
If you were fishing, you wouldn’t drop a line in the water and walk away, you would check that line every time you got a bite.
2. Word of mouth
When you need a trustworthy auto mechanic, where do you go? You ask your friends. Chances are, if they trust their mechanic, then you can too; the same goes for tax professionals.
What are your clients saying when they’re asked about their tax preparer?
Would they tell their friends that their preparer takes the time to really get to know his/her clients and understand their specific situations?
If so, you’re much more likely to get a referral and increase your business. If you’re in the business of getting as many people through your office as possible in the shortest amount of time, you’re hurting yourself in the long run.
3. Referral bonus
Offering a finders fee to your clients for referring their friends is a great way to acquire new clients. People are much more likely to mention your name if there’s something in it for them.
You can offer different things, such as cash, discount on preparation fees, or even being entered into a raffle for a big end of the year prize, such as an iPad or some other big ticket item that will get them talking.
No matter which option you choose, this will be a surefire way to get the word out about your tax practice.
4. Offer more than tax preparation
Why do people shop at Walmart? Because you can get everything you need in one trip. The same should be true for your business.
Consider offering other services along the same lines, such as credit repair, debt consolidation, financial planning, or even notary services. The goal is to add value to the office visit, and make yourself an option for all of their financial needs so there’s no hesitation when they need something.
5. Stay up to date on training
Nothing looks more official than being able to add fancy letters to the end of your title. You can do this by continuing your education and attending seminars. Once you start looking you’ll find that courses are offered year round all over the country, and can help you get the credits you need to attain certifications.
